Life in a Small Town in Mexico
Even though most of our water well drilling is done in other states of Mexico, we continue to base out of Soto La Marina, Tamaulipas. Some people might think...why there? That is a good question; one we have asked ourselves before. The answer is really found in the blessings and opportunities God has given us. I especially want to share about our children. Payden, who is 14, has taken to living here like a duck to water. He quickly picked up the language and enjoys the slow paced life that we have found here in this small Mexico town. He also plays the drums with a local Christian band. At the beginning of March, the band "Alfa" played in front of the state capital in Victoria. It was in celebration of "Day of the Family" and a great opportunity for these young men to share their faith with other young people. We are very proud of Payden and the way he wants to use his talents to honor the Lord.
Our daughter, Audrey, too has found an outlet for her God given talent. She loves to dance! Almost every day she is in our kitchen with the music turned up and dancing her heart out. If she has friends over then the kitchen becomes a makeshift dance studio as she teaches them her steps. Currently she is participating with a dance academy in Victoria. This group is Christian and they focus on using interpretive dance as a way to express worship and praise. The teacher in Victoria is very focused and full of the word of God. This has been a great influence on Audrey. She has friends here but she has also made good friends in the other parts of Mexico where we drill and minister. She is such a servant and always a big help to me when I do children's ministry and hygiene classes.
Gabe and I enjoy the time we have in between drilling trips. It gives us time to regroup and be a family. Gabe spends most of his time welding and constructing hand pumps or other drilling tools, fixing the rig and preparing for the next trip. Normally I'm focused on homeschooling the kids. I've also been teaching English to a few kids the last 6 months or so and it looks like I'm going to start a teen/adult class in May. There is a great interest here to learn English and I hope to use the class as a ministry as well. (by using Bible stories as the foundation)
I wanted to share a little about us personally. Some of you reading this are supporters and friends and I thought you might like to know something about our every day life as well as the news from our drilling/ministry trips. Thank you for your continued prayers and financial support. We are your fellow servants in Christ, Gabe,Jessica, Payden, & Audrey Hilliard
