Making New Friends

God has been opening new doors of opportunity for us in Chiapas by putting us in contact with many new people.  One new contact was with a group of Baptist churches in Cintalapa, Chiapas.  They have a camp that is used for retreats (of all groups) by the 45 local churches in the area.  They regularly have large meetings there and were struggling with water.  Their hand dug well would run dry regularly and they need the water for cooking, cleaning and restrooms.

Gabe drilled the water well with help from some of the local pastors and Christians.  It was a tough drill due to the fact that it was pure sand and the hole kept caving in.  He had to re-drill the same hole about 5 or 6 times and could not get the borehole walls to firm up even after using a whole bucket of drilling polymer.  But being the Mr. Fix-it that he is, he quickly came up with a solution to the problem, bought a few extra materials, made a few adjustments and got the well finished.  Praise the Lord it was an awesome well!!!  After inserting the submersible pump they started pumping some of the prettiest water we've ever seen in Mexico.  It pumped for hours and never went dry.  They had been praying for the water well and its success and I have to say that their prayers were definitely answered.

On another note, these were some of the nicest people we have met in Mexico.  We truly enjoyed our time getting to know them.  They made us feel special and welcomed.  Every day they would drive 45 minutes out to the camp to help Gabe with the drilling and fix food for all of us.  Even though I know they had other responsibilities, they made helping us their priority.  When the work was all done they presented us with a plaque of appreciation.  We spent our last evening there being shown around the town of Cintalapa and having dinner with our host families.  It is so nice to be able to help out fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and I know that the water well will be a lasting symbol of God's provision for them.
